SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360 : Suraksha Diagnostic Limited held a special awareness event in Kolkata on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day to draw attention to the rising prevalence of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in India. It's critical to recognise that we are seriously putting ourselves at risk these days due to the widespread use of unhealthy eating habits, insufficient exercise, and excessive screen addiction. In India, 30–40% of people have fatty liver disease. To keep this from becoming yet another significant social burden, every action must be taken immediately. Leading hepatologists spoke at the event, stressing the value of lifestyle modifications, early diagnosis, and increased access to liver health diagnostics. Dr. Somnath Chatterjee, Chairman & Joint Managing Director, Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics, explained that they are concentrating on fatty liver. All things considered, this is endemic in India. Therefore, they are working to raise public awareness of this. To avoid this, they shall recommend lifestyle modifications. Additionally, they will introduce a package for this and provide information about the available diagnostics. The session was taken by two of the most respected hepatology professionals—Prof. Dr. K. D. Biswas, Head, Hepatology & Gastroenterology, Medical College Kolkata, and Dr. Vikash Prakash, Consultant in Liver & Gastrointestinal Diseases and AASLD Young Investigator Award winner, Boston. They addressed the frequently underappreciated evolution of NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) into worse liver diseases like MASLD (Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease) and MASH (Metabolic associated steatohepatitis), which can end up causing fibrosis, cirrhosis, or even liver failure. The specialists stressed the need for early screening and making lifestyle modifications to avoid or reverse the progression of such liver disorders, underscoring how vital an early diagnosis is in fighting this increasingly prevalent health issue. To aid healthcare professionals and patients alike in early and correct diagnosis, a complete diagnostic package with a standard cost of INR 12,200 is now available at a special 50% reduced rate of INR 6,100, with the advantage of same-day report release at some centres. The move reinforces Suraksha's aim to make preventive healthcare more accessible and affordable, with the goal of promoting proactive screening and improved liver health management.
