News Desk. News Nation 360: The opening of a dedicated Thalassaemia Privilege Clinic and Day Care Ward by Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur is a major breakthrough in the provision of specialised care for patients in Eastern India. Under the direction of Prof. (Dr) Rajib De, the clinic offers a "one-roof" solution that combines diagnostic services, transfusion support, prenatal diagnostics, and genetic counselling, with a focus on paediatric patients up to the age of eighteen. The Thalassaemia Privilege Card, which gives patients affordable access to these comprehensive services, is a crucial component of the program. Dr De emphasised the concerning situation in West Bengal, where carrier rates can approach 10%, adding to the burden of more than 100,000 patients nationwide. In addition to managing transfusions for life, the clinic offers a direct route to bone marrow transplantation, which is the only treatment that can cure the illness. The regional director, Dr Ayanabh Debgupta, underlined that this program is a component of a larger plan to lower the prevalence of thalassaemia in the area through early detection and reasonably priced, professional-led treatments.
