The 8th Edition of the Prestigious Disha Samman 2025 was held in Kolkata

News Desk, News Nation 360 : The eighth edition of the esteemed Disha Samman 2025 took place recently in Kolkata on the auspicious eve of Mahalaya. Disha Samman, organised by Disha Eye Hospitals—Eastern India's largest eye care chain—recognises individuals and organisations who work for the betterment of visually impaired individuals. The awardees of this year are Lt Col Dwarakesh as the Youth Icon, Paritosh Biswas for his Inspirational Service, and the Blind & Para Judo Association of Bengal for Excellence in Combat Sports. Lt Col Dwarakesh, an Indore Army officer who lost his vision while on duty, has achieved success in Paralympic shooting, mountaineering, and still holds a post in Army administration while inspiring young people through his discipline and bravery. Paritosh Biswas is a seasoned Railway official in Kolkata, serving for over 36 years in Eastern Railways as the well-known voice of guidance at Sealdah Station despite being

visually impaired, inspiring millions of commuters. The Blind & Para Judo Association of Bengal is a pioneering institution that has coached tens of thousands of visually impaired young people in combat sports like Judo and Martial Arts, yielding champions who have earned accolades for the state and country. Disha Samman 2025 was honoured by the presence of dignitaries such as Air Marshal Ajay Kumar Pan, Rajeev Saxena (Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division), Jasram Meena (Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division), celebrated singer Rupankar Bagchi, and Dr Debashish Bhattacharya, Chairman & Managing Director of Disha Eye Hospitals. Dr Debashish Bhattacharya, Chairman & Managing Director, Disha Eye Hospitals, stated that through Disha Samman, they want to recognise those who turn their struggles into inspiration and their obstacles into courage. This year's honourees serve as a reminder that true vision encompasses more than just sight; it also involves resiliency, service, and the ability to light the way for others.
