News Desk, News Nation 360: In a medical breakthrough in regional orthopaedics, Kolkata-based orthopaedic and multispeciality hospital JBCH (JBN Medical College and Hospital) announced today that they have performed Eastern India's first ankle replacement surgery on a 33-year-old resident of Bolpur, Birbhum, Saswata Kundu, on 19th July 2026, who was suffering from debilitating post-traumatic arthritis with severely restricted movements following an accidental fracture 13 years ago. The press conference was held in the presence of the patient's family members and renowned surgeons Dr Soura Sekhar Saha [MBBS, MS (Ortho), MRCS (EDIN), Clinical Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery (NUH Singapore)], Dr Joydeep Banerjee Chowdhury [MBBS, FRCS (EDIN)], and Dr Dipmalya Chakraborty. The event reasserted JBCH's expertise in a niche area of foot and ankle surgery, and its ability to offer joint-preserving and restorative procedures as an alternative to conventional fusion surgeries in Eastern India while restoring full mobility to the patient's ankle joint with normal movements free from pain.
