SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360: Dr Gunja Chowdhury, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Disha Eye Hospitals, has highlighted some important tips to protect your eyes from avoidable injuries, corneal abrasions, and chemical burns. The eyes are the most fragile part of our body, so she advises wearing plain protective glasses when around fireworks and not wearing contact lenses when near hot open flames. Also avoid lighting any fireworks that have not gone off, or putting fireworks in glass bottles, metal tins or earthen pots, which can all shatter, causing fast-moving pieces of debris. If you do suffer an accident to your eye, you should rinse your eye in plenty of clean water for 10 mins. Don’t rub your eye, and don’t use home remedies like turmeric or oils. Go straight to an emergency eye department. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling fireworks or chemical rangoli powders to keep your festival safe and injury-free.
