SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360 : Recently, Chabi Films produced and Pabitra Goswami directed the political satire, Bhoot Ji Kar. The "witch queen" and her network of political ghosts who dominate the system through corruption and threat culture are at the focus of this allegorical investigation of contemporary societal decay, which employs a cast of theatre-trained actors. The story has a strong contemporary connection; in particular, it reflects the widespread unrest and judicial frustrations that follow a horrific crime against a female doctor, in which the pursuit of justice is impeded by a covert agreement between the criminal underworld and the governing class. The film's distinctive musical style is one of its best features, especially the creative and sarcastic use of the Rabindra Sangeet "Bhoot Ji Kar" to highlight the ridiculousness of a society in which criminals are allowed to roam freely while the legal system is immobilised. The film, whose songs and screenplay were also written by Goswami, attempts to awaken the conscience of the "educated class" who, in the real world depicted in the film, are frequently hushed by money and medals. It offers a scary yet funny critique of a judiciary and law enforcement framework that has been compromised by "ghosts."
