ECL Hosts UMMEED 2025

News Desk, News Nation 360 : Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) is organising UMMEED 2025, an International Conference and Exhibition on Underground Mining Mechanisation and Automation, from December 19 to 20, 2025, in partnership with IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, under the auspices of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS). The conference is being held under the distinguished Chief Patronage of Ujjwal Tah, Director General, DGMS; Satish Jha, Chairman and Managing Director, ECL; and Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. UMMEED 2025 commenced with a Welcome address by Niladri Roy, Director (Technical/OP), ECL, followed by the launch of the Souvenir for UMMEED 2025. Inaugural Sessions were addressed by Manoj Kumar Agarwal, CMD, BCCL, Nilendu Kumar Singh, CMD, CCL, and Satish Jha, CMD, ECL and CMPDIL(A/C), who emphasised the fact that the underground mining event has been envisioned under the supervision of Ujjwal Tah, DGMS, and organised by Eastern Coalfields Limited on behalf of Coal India Limited. He underlined the fact that safety comes first and advancements such as Continuous Miners & Longwall systems help ensure safety, while again underlining the importance of planning and communication for favouring the mining machinery market. Satish Jha also expressed confidence that the discussions under the UMMEED 2025 Conference will result in fruitful recommendations, which will chart the future course for underground mine activities of the country. Satish Jha further introduced the address by Ujjwal Tah, who presented on the importance and impact of safety, research, and government collaboration in the mining industry. He concluded the inaugural session by unveiling the location where the Exhibition on the best practices related to underground mining by renowned domestic and international companies will take place, which also comprises scale models of underground mine activities by subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. The technical sessions conducted after lunch comprised a presentation by Professor R. M. Bhattacharya, Professor & Head, Department Chairman, Chair Professor, Mech Engg., & Tech., Department Chairman, ISM-Dhanbad on “Mass Production Technology” which focused on productivity via mechanization processes, by Dr. P. S. Mishra on the subject “Economics & Policy Initiatives” which conducted discussion on the growth models, and finally by Supriyo Chakraborty, DDG, Eastern Zone, DGMS on “Safety Challenges in Underground Mining” which highlighted the safety aspects. UMMEED 2025 also experienced the active participation by Corporate JCC Members, Safety Board Members, Ex CMD & Ex Directors of Coal India subsidiaries, Area General Managers, and other officers of ECL. The activities under Day 01 were concluded by a Vote of Thanks by Bharatendu Kumar, GM(Excavation), ECL, which acknowledged appreciation for the contributions made by all the dignitaries, speakers, and delegates.
