News Desk, News Nation 360 : The Fortis Hospital Anandapur, Kolkata, made a breakthrough in the field by saving a severely affected child from Acute Necrotizing Encephalopathy (ANE), a rare and fatal disease, on April 9, 2026. Symptoms presented in the child were seizures, abnormality in liver functions, as well as systemic inflammatory response syndrome, which ultimately led to organ dysfunction in the kidney and an immune system failure in the body. To provide critical care to the child, mechanical ventilation and dialysis therapy were used by a multidisciplinary group of physicians to regulate heart functions and detoxify the toxins present in the body. Since ventilation became difficult due to prolonged treatment, a tracheostomy was done to facilitate breathing of the child, in addition to heart rate and blood pressure fluctuations in the body. After almost two months of treatment, there was considerable improvement in the health of the child in terms of being able to breathe on his own and neurological improvement. Giving details of the case, Dr Ritika Ghosh Dastidar, Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Intensivist, Fortis Hospital Anandapur, stated that in children, ANEC is a very uncommon and aggressive brain disorder that can worsen quickly and become fatal in a matter of hours. In addition to sophisticated medical care, managing such a condition necessitates good collaboration between many specialities and ongoing monitoring. The child had incredible fortitude in the face of multiple life-threatening problems over the course of treatment. They are still optimistic that the youngster will advance in the upcoming months with ongoing therapy and follow-up care.
