Launch of Amitabh Bachchan - As the Other by Esteemed Author Dr Shoma A. Chatterji

News Desk, News Nation 360 : 'Amitabh Bachchan - As The Other', the latest book by Dr Shoma A. Chatterji, was launched with great fanfare at Starmark, the premier bookstore chain. Star of Tollywood Prosenjit Chatterjee, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, the renowned Founder-Director of the Film Heritage Foundation, and Sudeshna Roy, a skilled filmmaker and advisor to the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, graced the book launch ceremony. Dr Shoma A. Chatterji, A Film Scholar, Author and Journalist stated that for her as a book author on Indian cinema, this is the start of a new chapter. She attempted to sketch out an entirely new perspective on the living legend Amitabh Bachchan. She had made an effort to break him free from the mould of the "angry young man" and show him that he was much more than that. "The other" is who he

is. What is meant by "the Other"? The book explains everything by analysing fifteen of his films from 1970 to 1991. This powerful work questioned popular perceptions of the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan by illuminating his complex character outside of the box of the "Angry Young Man" cliché. Dr Shoma A. Chatterji has examined 15 of Amitabh Bachchan's iconic performances in films, starting with Anand and ending with Agnipath, covering 20 years of his journey into the world of "The Other," to substantiate this theory. Parwana, Zanjeer, Saudagar, Namak Haram, Abhimaan, Deewar, Sholay, Amar Akbar Antony, Don, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Shakti, Coolie, and Main Azaad Hoon are among the other films included in this analysis. One chapter, "Othering the Other," captures a gentle Bachchan in personas he never would have imagined as a child.
