News Desk, News Nation 360: M.P. Ahammad, the chairman of the business house Malabar Group, was awarded the prestigious Business Bhushan Award at the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Awards 2026. The awards ceremony took place on March 11, 2026, under the Gateway of India in Mumbai. The award was for his forward-thinking leadership skills that have enabled the business house to grow to be the fifth-largest jewellery retailer globally and the largest of Indian origin. The award was graciously presented to Ahammad by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the presence of Lokmat Chairman Vijay Darda. The award was for his significant contributions to the growth of the organised retail sector in Maharashtra and for his strong commitment to social responsibility, including allocating 5% of the company’s profits to ESG initiatives like healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment. Some of the key highlights of the impact created by the business house: (1) Global presence: 425 showrooms across 14 countries. (2) Presence in Maharashtra: 34 showrooms in Maharashtra with a bold target of 64 stores by 2029. (3) Economic contribution: The business house has a fully integrated value chain, including design, manufacturing, and retailing. (4) Philanthropy: The business house has been committed to CSR activities since 1993. The 2026 awards also saw other notable personalities like veteran actor Ashok Saraf receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the growth of Maharashtra. Ameet Satam was awarded the Promising Politician Award for his contribution to the growth of Maharashtra.
