SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk. News Nation 360: To commemorate Bladder Cancer Awareness Month and honour the tenacity of survivors, carers, and medical professionals, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, arranged a touching Bladder Cancer Champions' Meet at the famous Indian Museum in Kolkata. Dr Sayan Bhattacharya, the director of the Indian Museum, and Dr Abhay Kumar, the director of urology and uro-oncology at Manipal Hospital, were present at the event, which brought attention to a disease that is predicted to cause between 25,000 and 26,000 new cases annually in India in 2026, making up 3% to 4% of all male cancers. Dr Kumar emphasised how the hospital's specialised support group, which was established in 2023, and state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgeries have significantly improved precision, recovery times, and partial bladder-preservation outcomes. He also pointed out that bladder cancer is often diagnosed late due to low public awareness. Dr Bhattacharya stated that the 212-year-old museum is developing into an inclusive cultural place to foster crucial societal conversations about health and human dignity, supporting the national vision of "Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi." In addition to 45-year-old Tapash Karmakar, who overcame muscle-invasive cancer through chemotherapy and reconstructive bladder surgery, and 62-year-old Soma Das, who overcame a bladder tumour through advanced robotic-assisted partial removal despite managing complex comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension, the event featured powerful recovery milestones from survivors. Both champions fervently urged the public to never ignore early symptoms and to seek prompt medical attention.
