structured counselling, nicotine replacement therapies, and comprehensive support by pulmonologists to help patients overcome addiction, the Pulmonary Rehabilitation & Vaccination Clinic offers personalised rehabilitation plans, breathing therapy, scientifically guided vaccinations among high-risk groups for the prevention of respiratory infections, and improvement in long-term lung function. These clinics were introduced through interactive forums and a panel discussion with senior pulmonologists like Dr Debraj Jash, Dr Suranjan Mukherjee, Dr Arnab Bera, Dr Moumita Chatterjee, and Dr Ayush Goel, who spoke on COPD, smoking risks, and prevention, thus emphasising the commitment of Manipal Hospitals to evidence-based patient-centred respiratory care and early intervention within the community. During the panel discussion, Dr Debraj Jash shared that the establishment of the Smoking Cessation Clinic is a critical step forward, particularly as India accounts for about 12% of the world's smokers and sees over 1 million smoking-related deaths each year, according to the WHO. Smoking remains the leading cause of COPD, which now affects over 55 million people in India. Helping people stop through systematic counselling and medical support increases success rates and reduces disease progression. With the establishment of our Pulmonary Rehabilitation & Vaccination Clinic, they can now provide a comprehensive pathway that improves lung function, decreases hospitalisations, and boosts overall quality of life. These offerings underline our commitment to creating a healthier, more knowledgeable community.
