Painter Sakti Burman Receives the Critics' Choice Award from The World University of Design

News Desk, News Nation 360 : Renowned painter Sakti Burman received the coveted "WUD Critics' Choice Award" for 2025 from World University of Design, India's first institution entirely devoted to creative education, in association with Nayan Naveli Gallery, in honour of his outstanding contributions to the painting community. Presented by World University of Design Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Gupta, the prize honours Burman's extraordinary talent and lifelong commitment to the arts, solidifying his reputation as a significant figure in modern art. Speaking at the felicitation, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design, stated that Sakti Burman's distinctive marbling method gives life to his artwork, which is a poetic synthesis of myth, history, and fantasy. He is a true master of visual storytelling since his art produces an enduring, ethereal experience. In recognition of his enormous contributions to contemporary art, World University of Design is proud to present him with the WUD Critics' Choice Award. Sakti Burman was born in Kolkata in 1935. He studied art at the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata. Then, he traveled to Paris to study at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He is renowned for his unique marbling technique. This is a technique in which oils are mixed with acrylics. This generates textures that resemble frescoes. He also applies pointillism in his works. This provides his artwork with a dreamy touch. His artwork blends elements from Hindu mythology. It also features elements from European mythology. His memories are incorporated into his artwork. He paints surrealistic landscapes. The landscapes are filled with human beings. They also contain animals and urban landscapes. His first solo exhibition was in Kolkata in 1954. Since then, his artwork has been exhibited in many locations around the world. These venues are renowned galleries in Paris, London, Milan, and Zurich. The World University of Design developed the WUD Critics' Choice Awards for Visual Arts. These awards seek to inspire visual artists in India. The awards promote artists in various styles. They recognize artists who are popular for their excellent work. The awards also recognize new and emerging artists.
