Shriram Mobility Bulletin: Truck Rentals Rebound in January as Commercial Vehicle Sales Rise

News Desk, News Nation 360 : According to today's Shriram Mobility Bulletin, the arrival of winter fruits and vegetables in January 2025 caused a smart recovery in truck rents along India's main trunk routes. Month-over-month, the Delhi-Hyderabad-Delhi and Kolkata-Guwahati-Kolkata routes had a 3.3% increase each, the Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi route saw a 4% increase, and the Mumbai-Kolkata-Mumbai route was up 3.7%. Commercial vehicle sales, in a seasonally robust January-March quarter because of peak activity during agricultural and manufacturing sectors, showed growth during the period with sales during January 2025, particularly on Goods Carriers growing 41%, followed by Three-wheelers, (goods), and Passenger Buses growing at 32%, Maxi Cabs registering growth at 59% while rabi harvest boosted sales of Agricultural trailers up 15%. Private vehicle sales also rose, with Motor Cars up 54% and Two-wheelers up 27% month-on-month. The electric vehicle segment also showed a positive trend with EV two-wheeler sales up 21% and EV car sales up 16%. This positive trend was supported by the e-way bill generation in December 2024, which showed consistent growth, with intra-state bills rising by 8.7% and inter-state bills by 12% month-on-month. Despite this general rise, the pan-India cold wave impacted commercial vehicle activities, thereby affecting the consumption of diesel with a 4 per cent month-to-month decline, whereas FASTag transactions volume and value also showed a marginal drop of 0.4 per cent. Y S Chakravarti, Managing Director and CEO of Shriram Finance Ltd. stated that the logistics industry is benefiting from the increase in rental prices. The introduction of winter fruits and vegetables is to blame for this surge since it has increased demand for storage and transportation services. However, the cold wave that has been plaguing most of the nation has negatively impacted vehicle traffic, leading to supply chain problems.
