News Desk, News Nation 360 : National Cancer Awareness Day is observed annually in India on November 7th, a date chosen to honour the birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Marie Curie, whose pioneering research on radioactivity significantly advanced cancer treatment. Dr Vivek Agarwala, Director & Sr Consultant, Medical Oncology & Dr Kaustav Mandal, Medical Oncologist, Narayana Hospital, Barasat, have discussed about small lifestyle changes that can make a big difference in preventing a deadly disease like Cancer. Established in 2014 by then Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, this day emphasises the importance of early detection, prevention, and accessible treatment for cancer. India faces a growing cancer burden, with over 1.5 million new cases reported annually and a large proportion diagnosed at advanced stages. National Cancer Awareness Day mobilises healthcare organisations, government agencies, NGOs, and the public through awareness campaigns, screenings, and educational programs aimed at reducing stigma, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and encouraging regular screenings for breast, cervical, oral, and other cancers. The day also highlights key preventive measures such as quitting tobacco, limiting alcohol, maintaining a nutritious diet, staying active, and vaccination, where applicable. National Cancer Awareness Day fosters a collective commitment to improving cancer outcomes and reducing mortality rates across India.
