News Desk, News Nation 360 : The 31st Indian Plumbing Conference & Exhibition, organised by the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), was opened today by Chief Guest Firhad Hakim, Hon'ble Mayor of Kolkata and Minister of Urban and Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal, and Guest of Honour Debashis Sen, IAS (Retired). The inauguration was attended by Gurmit Singh Arora, National President, Indian Plumbing Association; Chandra Shekhar Gupta, National Vice President, IPA; Minesh Shah, National Hon. Secretary, IPA; Abhay Pasari, Chairman, IPA Kolkata Chapter; and Pradeep Chakravarti, Vice Chairman, IPA Kolkata Chapter. Gurmit Singh Arora, National President, Indian Plumbing Association, stated that this conference is strongly aligned with the goals of national initiatives such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT 2.0, which focus on improving water supply infrastructure and promoting urban sustainability. Smart water management, driven by data-driven innovation, coherent policy, and efficient on-ground execution, has the potential to be genuinely revolutionary in realising both national priorities and global sustainability commitments, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The three-day conference in Kolkata, on "Sustainable Smart Water Management," brings together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to address pressing issues in India's plumbing and water ecosystem and their future strategies. The main discussion topics are the transformation of water supply with real-time data on AI & IoT; wastewater treatment and water circularity innovations; water-neutral buildings; and challenges in plumbing design for high-rise buildings. With more than 80 top exhibitors from India and abroad, the exhibition has showcased the latest plumbing, water treatment, and sustainable building technologies. A revised 2025 edition of the Water Efficiency and Sanitation Standard for the Built Environment - We Stand - India - was unveiled during the event. This standard has been jointly developed by the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and is designed to optimise water use while maintaining health and safety under constraints like climate change and droughts through conservation and reuse. Some of the prominent participants included government officials like Milind Deore, Secretary of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, along with experts from different fields, to emphasise the combined effort required to push sustainable water management and infrastructure in India.
