SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk. News Nation 360: Manipal Hospitals East has introduced a new emergency care program, "One Scan Can Save a Life," to commemorate World Emergency Medicine Day. This tech-driven framework is intended to provide quick ambulance services in life-threatening medical situations. Prominent medical professionals, such as Dr. Indranil Das (Senior Consultant & HOD – Accident & Emergency Care, Manipal Hospital EM Bypass), Dr. Sujoy Das Thakur (Consultant & In-Charge – Emergency Medicine, Manipal Hospital Mukundapur), and Dr. Kishen Goel (Consultant & HOD – Emergency, Manipal Hospital Broadway), attended the launch event alongside the cast of the upcoming Bengali film "Fulpishi and Edward," which is directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee. In order to maximise the benefits of the "Golden Hour"—the crucial first
hour after an emergency that can reduce cardiac mortality by up to 50% and combat India's enormous annual volume of cardiovascular deaths and 150,000 road accident fatalities—this initiative introduces an easy-to-use QR-based system integrated with the Manipal Ambulance Response Service (MARS). Dr Jayanta Roy, the head of regional neurology, emphasised that "Time is Brain" during a stroke because 1.9 million brain cells can die every minute. Dr Dilip Kumar, a senior interventional cardiologist, pointed out that the QR framework reduces risky transit delays by simplifying cardiac evaluation. Dr Debasish Chakraborty, the director of orthopaedics, further stated that quick trauma care is essential to changing death rates, citing recent traffic data that revealed almost 191 people died in road accidents in Kolkata in 2024. In his summary of the operational vision, Dr Kishen Goel made it clear that the main goal of the campaign goes beyond the deployment of seamless digital lifelines to actively foster community awareness and establish long-term emergency response habits across the region.
