SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360 : The Calcutta Chamber of Commerce (CCC) honoured two extraordinary young ladies whose journeys have brought them to the extremes of the planet: one who has conquered the highest peaks on all seven continents, and another who has fearlessly swum across some of the world's most demanding waters. Dr C.V. Ananda Bose, the Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal, will grace the Occasion as the Chief Guest. And will present the CCC Sports Excellence Awards to Kaamya Karthikeyan - Mountaineer & Skier and Sayani Das - Open-Water Swimmer. It's a remarkable and inspirational happenstance to commemorate such disparate, yet equally impressive, accomplishments of perseverance and devotion. Hari Shankar Halwasiya, the outgoing President, welcomed the audience, and the incoming President, Anant Saharia, submitted a vote of appreciation at the Chamber's 194th Annual General Meeting. The summit was attended by the most respected corporate leaders and prominent members of the diplomatic community. Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 17-year-old student from Navy Children School in Mumbai, became the youngest girl ever to achieve the Seven Summits quest by ascending the highest points of all seven continents. She attained this incredible feat on 24 December 2024 when she ascended the summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica, with her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy. Her previous ascents were of Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Elbrus (Europe), Mount Kosciuszko (Australia), Mount Aconcagua (South America), Mount Denali (North America), and Mount Everest (Asia), which she climbed at 16 years old, becoming the youngest Indian and second youngest female in the world to ascend Everest from the Nepal route. Beginning her trekking adventure at the age of seven years in Uttarakhand, Kaamya received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award in 2021 for her remarkable accomplishments. Her life is highly regarded for its exhibition of toughness, perseverance, and inspiration to youth explorers all over the world. Kalna, India's Sayani Das is a top-level open-water swimmer who has successfully transitioned from competitive short-distance swimming to ultra-marathons and channel swimming after completing six out of seven Ocean's Seven Challenge swims. She is known for her determination, resilience, and love for the ocean and has been honoured with India's top adventure sports award, presented by the President of India.
