News Desk, News Nation 360: A 39-year-old woman with significant gynaecological problems and Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) was successfully treated by medical professionals at Manipal Hospital Broadway in Kolkata. The patient, a Kankurgachi resident, had endured years of severe anaemia and potentially fatal menstrual haemorrhage, with her haemoglobin falling to dangerously low levels of 5–6 g/dL. Following the clinical observation of an enlarged spleen and liver, a multidisciplinary team led by Drs. Abhipsa Mazumdar (Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology) and Sumit Mitra (Consultant, Clinical Haematology) determined that her condition was made worse by an undetected blood malignancy. Dr Mazumdar used a sophisticated "scarless" surgical method called a Non-Descent Vaginal Hysterectomy (NDVH) to remove the enlarged uterus through the vaginal channel without making any abdominal incisions when her leukaemia stabilised. In addition to treating the underlying cancer, this coordinated effort permanently stopped the chronic bleeding, guaranteeing the patient a quick, painless recovery and a markedly better quality of life.
