The Indian Navy Received the First Diving Support Craft from Titagarh Rail Systems Limited

News Desk, News Nation 360 : The first domestically constructed Diving Support Craft (DSC), DSC A20, was given to the Indian Navy by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), a prominent rolling stock and engineering solutions provider in India. This ship is the first of five DSCs that TRSL is building as part of the Ministry of Defence's "Made in India" campaign. As the Chief Guest, Commodore Aravind Chari, CSO (Tech), Southern Naval Command, was present during the handover event. The Diving Support Craft (DSC), constructed with a catamaran-type hull, is designed to support the Navy's Command Clearance Diving Teams in critical underwater activities like ship repair, maintenance, and salvage within and near harbours. The ship is also equipped to serve as a training platform for the Navy's diving cadre, thereby building operational readiness. Having a total length of 32.9 metres and a beam of 13 metres, the vessel has a 72-hour economic endurance with 25 per cent reserve fuel capacity. It is powered by two 1,342 KW engines, has a cruising speed of 11 knots, and accommodates a crew of 18 personnel. The handover of DSC A20 by TRSL's Shipbuilding and Maritime Systems Division testifies to its capabilities in building sophisticated, precision-high vessels for the military and is a milestone—DSC A20 is the first Indian Naval Commissioned Vessel to be constructed and delivered by a private shipyard in Bengal and reflects Titagarh's growing leadership in India's maritime industry. Speaking on the occasion, Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, stated that the DSC A20 handover is a significant turning point for Titagarh and reflects their operational preparedness with ships constructed fully in India, placing a stronger emphasis on domestic design and shipbuilding capabilities. They have continuously provided dependable defence and mobility solutions over the years, and this accomplishment shows that they are dedicated to assisting the country's self-reliance objectives with the same dependability and consistency that their partners have come to anticipate from them.
