SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk, News Nation 360: Officers of the West Bengal Revenue Service (WBRS) organised a special policy symposium, “Financing development for a resurgent West Bengal”, at historic Kolkata Town Hall to deliberate on ways to steer the state’s economic resurgence. As the largest Group-A administrative cadre in West Bengal and responsible for mobilizing over 90% of the state’s own tax revenue (SOTR), the officers participating in the session have identified three pillars to guide the state’s economic resurgence: increasing state revenues, easing industries and ease of doing business to attract capital, and rigorous enforcement of economic crimes and tax evasion; addressing these, officials said that evolving the WBRS from enforcement agents to enablers is key to expanding Bengal’s fiscal space, financing of social infrastructure, and attracting a transparent and industry-friendly investment climate.
