News Desk, News Nation 360 : The 47th International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF) will occur at the Central Park Mela Ground in Salt Lake, Kolkata, from January 18 to January 31, 2024. The UK will be the theme country for this event, proudly announced by the Publishers & Booksellers Guild and the British Council, the UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. Visitors can explore a range of aspects of the UK, such as its rich literary traditions, the arts, science, education, and opportunities for English language learning, through the UK Pavilion, which will provide a dynamic platform. To commemorate the English language's expanding influence worldwide, the UK Pavilion's 'Future of English' exhibition will enthral visitors with interactive exhibits that highlight the language's vast popularity. There will be various events and activities available to visitors to promote cultural exchange and deeper understanding between the two countries.
Alison Barrett MBE, Director of the British Council's India division, said they are delighted that the UK will be the theme country at the International Kolkata Book Fair again. This fair offers them a great opportunity to highlight active UK-India collaborations in education, science, the English language, and the creative industries. It is of great cultural significance for both Kolkata and India. As they celebrate their 75th year in Kolkata, India, they are eager to maintain their association with the Booksellers and Publishers Guild. In addition to presenting a speaker lineup at the fair and the related Kolkata Literature Festival, the UK will serve as the theme country, enhancing literary and intellectual exchanges.
