SERVES FOR NATION

News Desk. News Nation 360: In collaboration with PayU, WhatsApp has introduced a new service that enables Indian customers to finish prepaid cell recharges for Jio, Airtel, and Vi from within the app. The feature, which allows users to top up their own numbers or those of friends and relatives without navigating between several programs, was announced in April 2026 and is currently being rolled out in phases across Android and iOS. WhatsApp has added a specific rupee (₹) icon to the home screen to improve discoverability. This icon acts as a single point of entry for UPI payments, mobile recharges, and metro ticketing services. Hemang Dattani of PayU stressed the ease of integrating high-frequency transactions into platforms where users already spend their time, while Ravi Garg, Director of Business Messaging at Meta India, highlighted the action as part of an ongoing effort to create a "unified experience" for routine essential tasks. This integration adds to WhatsApp's current ecosystem of bill payment, government chatbots, and transit services, thus extending its usefulness in India beyond texting.
