News Desk, News Nation 360 : Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) declared that it will establish an Oil Palm Processing Milling in Tripura as part of its Oil Palm Plantation business (OPP). The company plans to establish a nursery in the Dhalai district of the state, with a capacity of 3 Lacs per year and plans to increase it to 5 Lacs per year. In addition, the company plans to open Samadhan Centre, a one-stop solution centre that offers comprehensive support to oil palm farmers, and an advanced Research & Development centre for oil palm in the vicinity. Aside from Dr. Harikrishna Kulaveerasingam, Head of Research & Development at SD Guthrie Plantations in Malaysia, Ratan Lal Nath, Hon. Minister for Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Govt. of Tripura, officiated the ground-breaking event for the mill and R&D centre. Having spent more than 20 years researching and deciphering the oil palm genome, he would advise a corporation on how to cultivate high-yield, sustainably produced oil palm locally. The following people were also present: Paul Dangshu, a member of the Legislative Assembly from Karamcherra; Sambhu lal Chakma, a member of the Legislative Assembly from Chawmanu; Bimal Kanti Chakma, MDC, Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council; Apurba Roy, Secretary of Agriculture, Government of Tripura; and Dr. Harikrishna Kulaveerasingam, SD Guthrie Plantations, Malaysia, Pranoy Debbarma, Vice-Chairman, Manu Block. Commenting on the decision to set up the R&D centre, Sougata Niyogi, CEO of Oil Palm Plantation Business, Godrej Agrovet Limited stated that As a company that prioritises sustainability over revenue, they work to advance environmentally friendly methods of growing oil palm. In keeping with this, they've decided to establish a cutting-edge research and development facility in the area. Their scientific team is now conducting genome research to create seeds that are appropriate for both the local and state climates. They intend to export technologies developed at this centre to other regions of the nation.
