JIS Group Launches West Bengal’s First Private Veterinary College

News Desk, News Nation 360 : In Kolkata, the JIS Group announced the establishment of West Bengal's first private veterinary college, "JIS College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences" (JISCOVAS), which will span 30 acres in Mogra, Hooghly. Dignitaries in attendance included Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, Dr Promit K Ghosal, Project Coordinator, JISCOVAS, Prof. (Dr.) Mozammel Hoque, Principal, JIS College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bidyut Majumder, Deputy Director, Business Development, JIS Group, and senior officials from the JIS Group and JISCOVAS. The college offers a five-and-a-half-year Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) course, including one year of compulsory internship as per the requirements of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The course is affiliated with the West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) and is recognised by the VCI. The total intake is 80 students for each academic session. Eligibility involves qualification in NEET along with getting aggregate marks of at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in the 10+2 examination; age must be between 18 to 25 years; relaxation of five years will apply to the reserved category as per government rules. Separate hostels are available for boys and girls, and international students are also accommodated as per VCI rules. Facilities include a state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital with diagnostic laboratories, radiology, ICU, OPD, IPD, and Specialised Operation Theatres for surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, dentistry, and ophthalmology and an Isolation Ward for infectious diseases. The college has a ‘Fodderland,’ which is a piece of land dedicated to the cultivation of fodder as part of ensuring a regular supply of nutritious feed for the livestock, thus reflecting a complete ecosystem for veterinary education and practice. Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group, stated that JISCOVAS is more than just a new college; it is about defining the future of veterinary science in West Bengal and beyond. Their mission is to construct a world-class school that balances tradition and innovation, prepares students with global competencies, and helps nation-building by tackling the expanding difficulties in animal healthcare, as well as to be a vibrant player in achieving the "One Health Concept". This is a proud moment for both the JIS Group and West Bengal.
