News Desk, News Nation 360 : In the third week of January, the Karma Social and Welfare Trust organised a two-day event that mixed art and culture with a sense of shared service, aimed at strengthening ties between social work and the public. This year, they extended what has normally been a one-day event to highlight an ambitious scheme: constructing an orphanage in the Dhonekhali area of the Sundarbans. According to the head of the trust and practising lawyer Anil Das, January has been chosen because of favorable weather and school schedules. The event started on 17 January with a soulful tribute to the late social worker and journalist Bijoy Roy Mahashay, whose philosophy based on love and brotherhood keeps on inspiring the trust in its mission. About eighty established artists, along with many talented children, made artworks on the first day, which will find a place at the orphanage site in due time. The Chhau dances from Purulia,

tribal dances, and musical performers who celebrated the folks of West Bengal - that is what the celebrations were made of. Esteemed guests like Sanjay Roy and filmmaker Badal Sarkar attended the inaugural day to give their support to the humanitarian cause. On the second day, the trust organised a Sit-and-Draw competition for children and shared with the local community their roadmap for the orphanage. Other prominent participants who joined in as the event moved toward a prize distribution ceremony included Nasrin Banu and painter Dibakar Chakraborty. While the trust routinely conducts December blood donation camps and health check-ups, its priority at the moment remains the successful establishment of the Sundarbans orphanage. This cultural get-together was a deliberate step toward that major social commitment, helping to build momentum and community backing.
