News Desk, News Nation 360 : Recently, a unique Oncology Meet brought together prominent oncology professionals, carers, and cancer survivors at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, which is part of one of the top multispecialty healthcare institutes in Eastern India. The show highlighted the hospital's cutting-edge facilities and comprehensive cancer care capabilities while honouring the survivors' unwavering spirit. The inauguration of organ-specific oncology services, which aim to provide focused and specialised cancer care across disciplines, was announced by Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria during the summit. In order to further demonstrate its dedication to patient-centred care, openness, and accessibility, the hospital recently launched a "Free Second Opinion" consultation program for cancer patients. The program witnessed the involvement of a committed team of 10 oncologists from Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, which reflects the strength and collective spirit of its oncology department. The visiting experts were Dr. Shubhayu Banerjee, Advisor, Comprehensive Cancer Care Center and Senior Consultant – GI Oncology; Dr. Bastab Ghosh, Consultant – Uro Oncology; Dr. Sagnik Ray, Consultant – Surgical Oncology; Dr. Tanmoy Kumar Mandal and Dr. Ashutosh Daga, Consultants – Medical Oncology; Dr. Shreya Bhattacharya, Consultant – Head & Neck Surgery/Oncology; Dr. Jasashwi Chakraborty, Consultant – Haematology; Dr. Saumen Basu, Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncology; Dr. Anirban Halder, Consultant – Radiation Oncology; and Dr. Paromita Roy, Consultant – Gynaecological Oncology. Mr. Dilip Kumar Roy, Director of the Hospital, was also present there. Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria's "Free Second Opinion" Consultation Programme for cancer patients is aimed at helping hundreds of people in Kolkata and the West Bengal districts. With close to 25% of the state's cancer patients driving to other metro cities for advanced treatment, the program provides trusted, multidisciplinary oncology services locally, decreasing travel requirements, lessening patient anxiety, and facilitating more informed treatment options. By providing timely, specialised consultations within regions with limited oncology resources, the program facilitates earlier treatment and encourages fair access to quality cancer care near one's home. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shubhayu Banerjee, Advisor, Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre, Senior Consultant-GI Oncology, Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, stated that in addition to celebrating survival, this meeting honours the advancements made in cancer treatment. Nowadays, there is no one-size-fits-all form of cancer. They can offer each patient highly individualised, accurate, and successful treatment regimens based on their unique demands, thanks to the availability of organ-specific oncology expertise and facilities for cutting-edge diagnostics. Their mission is to ensure that each person receives the appropriate care at the appropriate time from the appropriate team. These gatherings honour not only the resilience of their patients but also their commitment to improving cancer treatment and building a more robust community support network.
