SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360 : One of the top healthcare providers in Eastern India, Manipal Hospitals East, proudly launched the "Plastics Neutral Hospitals" initiative at Medica Superspecialty Hospital, a part of Manipal Hospitals Network, in collaboration with the CII West Bengal Healthcare Taskforce and MAGPET Polymers Pvt. Ltd., marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability. By installing sensor-enabled SmartReBins that encourage responsible plastic waste management, this initiative seeks to turn hospital campuses into plastic-neutral areas. The Medica Superspecialty Hospital facility in Kolkata, which falls under the Manipal Hospitals Network, introduced a novel drive for sustainable healthcare using SmartReBins. The introduction marks a new age where technology is employed to drive environmental stewardship in the healthcare sector, pointing once again to Manipal Hospitals' focus on sustainability and public health. The program boasts geo-tagged SmartReBins, which have the look of PET bottles so that they cannot be moved or stolen, with in-built sensors that notify a central system to collect when full. The technology guarantees on-time and effective plastic waste collection and enables the hospital to track the quantity of plastic kept out of landfills. These gathered PET bottles are subsequently processed into quality recycled materials by Magpet Polymers and channelled into a circular economy. Speaking at the event, Dr. Ayanabh Debgupta, Regional Chief Operating Officer, Manipal Hospitals – East, shared that, being a top healthcare provider, they recognise the urgent need to manage plastic waste and are committed to setting the standard for sustainable hospital ecosystems. They think that this endeavour would encourage their colleagues in the medical community in Kolkata to work together to create future healthcare facilities that are greener and cleaner. They are happy to work with CII and Magpet Polymers on this progressive project that is in line with their dedication to environmental responsibility because they have a common goal.
