News Desk, News Nation 360 : The 10th-11th Biennial State Conference of the Progressive United Engineers’ Association, the largest organisation of engineers in West Bengal, has begun at the Nazrul Mancha auditorium. Convener Pratap Nayak, President Er. Subrata Ghosh, Vice President Er. Ananta Nandi, General Secretary Er. Anirban Ojha, Advisor Er. Shibu Biswas, and Er. Debraj Singha Roy lit the ceremonial lamp to formally kick off the event. Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee, MLA Debashis Kumar, Ashok Dey, and several other notable visitors and public figures attended the inaugural ceremony. About 2,500 engineers from different districts of West Bengal assembled at Nazrul Mancha on February 1 for the principal State Conference after a series of successful district conferences held since November 2025. This historical convention became an opportunity for engineers to discuss several important administrative and financial demands in a bid to improve their professional conditions. The most important issues under
discussion include the adoption of a 50:50 promotional ratio for Junior Engineers in accordance with the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission and the complete implementation of pay commission parts for the WBSES and WBES cadres. The organisation is also fighting for the scientific reorganisation of engineering departments and the establishment of new Assistant Engineer posts at the block level to improve the management of local infrastructure. Other major demands include the consideration of the experience of contractual engineers during PSC recruitment and the provision of health and travel facilities, such as WBHS and LTC, for engineers in the KMDA department. In addition, the cadres demand the discontinuation of the licensing system for Junior Engineers in the PWD to simplify their service. This state-level convention comes after a preparatory delegate conference with district leaders held just days earlier in Kolkata. The success of these conferences indicates a collective effort to address long-standing grievances in the engineering services of the state.
