News Desk, News Nation 360 : The 47th International Kolkata Book Fair, which IPA Geneva recognises as the world's most-attended book fair, is rapidly approaching. The fair is slated to take place at the Boi Mela Prangan in Salt Lake City, Kolkata, from January 18, 2024, to January 31, 2024. The International Kolkata Book Fair 2024's Focal Theme Country is the United Kingdom. They are delighted to host this national press conference at the British High Commission's British Council in New Delhi. Together with Dr Debanjan Chakraborti, Director, East and North East India, British Council, they are honoured to have Madam Alison Barrett MBE, Director, India, as their honoured guest. The 47th International Kolkata Book Fair, like its predecessors, will be digitally enabled, enabling book enthusiasts from all over India and the world to interact with the various events of the fair. Books worth 25 crores INR were sold at the book fair last year, which drew 2.6 million visitors. They are in awe of this historic occasion brought about by West Bengal's book enthusiasts. More than 200 years ago, Sir William Jones, a renowned academic, immigrated to India and founded the Asiatic Society, which is the oldest research institute and publishing house in India. The Asiatic Society has stepped up to present an exhibition that highlights the history of the society and places a special emphasis on the contribution of British scholars to the advancement of India's intellectual pursuits with the United Kingdom, with support from the Guild. Along with direct participation from the United States of America, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Australia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Argentina, Cuba, Peru, and other Latin American countries, all national and multinational publishers, including Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Hachette, Bloomsbury, Rupa, Pan Macmillan, and Orient Blackswan, will have their pavilions. Additionally, publishers from practically every state in India—including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and others—participate directly. An essential component of the Book Fair, the 10th edition of the Kolkata Literature Festival (KLF) 2024 will take place over three days in the afternoon on January 26, 27, and 28 in the fairground auditorium. Prominent authors and celebrities from both India and overseas will be present at the KLF 2024, participating in a variety of interactive sessions. The KLF will culminate each day with evening musical and dance performances.
