News Desk, News Nation 360 : Baul Samrat Shri Purna Chandra Das, who took Bengali folk music to the world stage, was felicitated by the Revenue Officials Women's Association (ROWA) of the Income Tax Department at a special function organised at the Income Tax Office, Kolkata. Hailing from a poor family in Birbhum, he was directly honoured with the title "Baul Samrat" by the President of India and was awarded Padma Shri in 2013, along with various national and international honours. At 91 years old, he keeps inspiring the younger generations by passing on the spirit of Indian folk music and Baul songs. The function was attended by ROWA Chairperson Smt. Archana Kumar, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Esther Lal Ruatkimi, IRS, departmental officials, and honoured guests. Purna Chandra Das enchanted the audience with his melodious folk performances, stressing that music enthusiasts and the people at large, both in India and overseas, need to step forward and help preserve and propagate traditional Indian folk music.
