News Desk, News Nation 360 : The opening of Charnock Lohia Hospital, the first private heritage superspeciality hospital in West Bengal and situated in the centre of Central Kolkata, marks a significant turning point in Bengal's medical history. Formerly known as Lohia Matri Sewa Sadan, the recently opened 250-bed super speciality institution revitalises a nearly 200-year-old Grade I heritage building by skilfully fusing state-of-the-art medical facilities with conserved legacy architecture. Kolkata’s urban rhythm received a brand new beat when Mayor Firhad Hakim inaugurated the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Charnock Lohia Hospital. This is no ordinary
hospital. It is the first-ever private heritage superspeciality hospital in West Bengal. It is located in an area near the Girish Park Metro Station on a project worth ₹250 crores. The project is the resurrection of a 200-year-old Grade I Heritage Building that was once named Lohia Matri Sewa Sadan. The Heritage Building is a testament to the architectural grandeur of the colonial era. It houses 250 beds, including 70 ICU beds and 20 private cabins, along with state-of-the-art modular operating theatres. There are dedicated facilities for cardiology, neurosciences, and dialysis. The hospital is set to provide modern tertiary care facilities in the bustling neighbourhoods of Central Kolkata, from Burrabazar to Jorasanko. The project is set to create 1,000 jobs in the region. It is a beautiful amalgamation of the past and the present. The hospital was inaugurated in the presence of Shashi Panja and Chandrima Bhattacharya, along with MD Prashant Sharma.
