News Desk, News Nation 360: A team of doctors at Manipal Hospital Dhakuria successfully saved a 19-year-old girl who nearly died of severe hypovolemic and septic shock. The patient came in with massive organ failure after a huge tubercular intestinal perforation. The patient was residing at Palm Avenue, Kolkata, in Murshidabad and came in for multiple interventions as she was under observation for pulmonary TB that was diagnosed in March 2026. She was shifted to the hospital in a critical condition on 21 August, as her blood pressure was 80/60 mmHg despite the maximum dose of noradrenaline and vasopressin infusions. The patient also had severe coagulopathy with PT/INT of 3.2 and altered sensorium. Under emergency fresh frozen plasma coverage, senior consultant in GI & Colorectal Surgery Dr Tanmoy Mukherjee performed an emergency midnight laparotomy and removed 60-70 cm of the perforated intestinal section and made a double-barrel ileostomy. The patient had multiple post-surgery complications as she was kept in the ICU under the care of Dr Subhas Kumar Todi, a critical care specialist, along with other doctors. She developed ARDS and needed re-intubation and also had severe acute liver failure with serum bilirubin levels of about 30. With the combined efforts of doctors, her other organs were stabilised, and liver function started improving. The patient was discharged on 10 September after being restarted on anti-tubercular medicines and given oral liquids.
