The Rammohun Library and Free Reading Room were established in the year 1904 in memory of the Father of the Bengal Renaissance, Raja Rammohun Roy. Since its inception, this historical place has experienced the presence of legendary freedom fighters and other honourable personalities of India. From Maharajadhiraj Bahadur Bijoy Chand of Bardhaman to Raja Resheecaser Law, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandy, Satyendra Nath Tagore, Dwijendralal Roy, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Prafulla Chandra Ray, Brajendranath Shil, Sister Nivedita, Ramananda Chatterjee, Suniti Kumar Chattopadhyay have been a regular visitor of the Rammohun Library. On this auspicious occasion, Sanjit Mitra, General Secretary of Rammohun Library and Free Reading Room said that India's struggle for independence is a significant part of its History. The revolution which brought this liberty and enfranchisement bears its root in the lands of Kolkata.
