This is the first-ever marathon for the Government Schools in Kolkata, with the theme "RUN= RISE UP NOW." Go Green Kolkata is the overarching theme and will serve as the marathon's leitmotif. Over two hundred runners from twelve government schools eagerly participated in the 1.5 km race, which started at the Victoria Gate and wound its way through Red Road and other places before finishing at Exide Bus Stop. A diverse group of students from the following schools demonstrated the spirit: Children's Welfare Association High School for Girls (H.S.), Vip Nagar High School (H.S), Tiljala High School, Tollygunge Girls High School, Tiljala Balika Vidyalaya, Kasba Chittaranjan High School, Santoshpur Rishi Aurobindo Balika Vidyapith, Charankabi Mukunda Das High School. Notably, class IX and class X students took an active part in the marathon. In order to attract more students to participate in the marathon, Super Shakti Foundation kindly sponsored it, keeping it free for everyone and therefore accessible to all interested students. Speaking on the occasion, Sitaram Agarwal, Chairman, Super Smelters Ltd stated that for Kolkata students attending government-run schools, this represents a groundbreaking endeavour. Their goal was to encourage and educate kids about sustainability and climate protection. More greenery is desperately needed for the plant, and awareness is the first step towards meaningful change. In order to further the cause of protecting Mother Earth, they hope to make this an annual occasion. It is their hope that the children will become more environmentally conscious and take more initiative. In the presence of GK Sharan, Chief Mentor Sai Group, Siddhartha Sankar Roy (Sidhu), singer and founder of the band Cactus Bengal, and Ishant Jainn, CSR Head Sai Group, the marathon was officially launched at a formal function hosted by Sitaram Agarwal, Chairman Super Smelters Limited.
